We won’t see you this Christmas
We’re going to spend it on our own
And I know you’re going to miss us
But I know you’re not alone
And we could get the ferry to the mainland
We could even take the plane
We’ve been lucky on the island
What if we brought it home again?
There will be other Christmases
There will be other years
Don’t dry your eyes, love
This Christmas is a time for tears
We’ll call and not be sure what we should say
Watch you all on video
You’ll seem so close, and be so far away
Would it have been OK for us to go?
I think we know
With love from Northmavine, Shetland
