A tombolo, not a tombola

St Ninian's Isle in Shetland's South Mainland, yesterday. Mediterranean conditions (which means a survival time in the sea of, oh, 20 minutes). A tombolo is a double-sided beach. I think this is the largest in Europe.

You are right - it is the largest sand tombolo in Europe - that presumably means there are bigger ones of rock in Europe and elsewhere, but none as beautiful as St Ninians. What's more it is self-healing, so if a really 'orrible storm damages it, it rebuilds itself, unlike my ribs!Lovely photo Tom.
Cheers, Rupert.
